People Consultant (Schools)

Kingston Upon Thames

£18.48 per hour

This role will be supporting Surrey Maintained schools, for the majority of the time you will be office based, but there may be a requirement to attend a schools meetings at some point.

Fundamentally you will be updating HR schools policies and procedures, interpreting recent employment case law and statutory changes and considering the impact on schools policies & procedures.    

The initial focus of the role will be on:

  • The 2019/20 teachers’ pay award, communication to schools and updating all relevant documentation
  • Advise on teachers’ pay queries
  • Updating schools ‘model’ HR policies, including the pay policy statements (mainly formatting and updating a schools portal)
  • Advising schools on local ‘Surrey Pay’ terms and conditions for support staff
  • Communicating the latest position on the annual pay review for support staff and considering its impact on schools
  • Dealing with any school pay queries for support staff
  • Attending Bursar Briefings and providing updates on benefits to schools etc.

This role will suit someone who has experience of working in HR for schools, or a good understanding of teacher’s terms and conditions.    The candidate should have local government experience.    The role will involve formatting and writing HR policies for schools, so experience in policy/report writing would be helpful.

The role holder does not need to advise on employee relations case work (grievance/disciplinary/sickness absence etc) although a understanding of these processes will help in some aspects of the role.

  • Professional qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Highly credible and able to work collaboratively with other parts of the business.
  • Resilient, curious, adaptable and creative.
  • Willing and able to undertake reasonable travel around and beyond the county.
