Housing/Public Health Enforcement Officer

Croydon

Full-Time Temporary Contract (3 Months)

£16.88 per hour

The purpose of this role will be to carry out inspections of dwellings in relation to housing conditions and public health issues and to take informal and/or statutory enforcement action as appropriate. To provide advice to property owners and occupants, builders, internal colleagues and external agencies on housing and public health issues.

Duties will include surveying properties and carrying out inspections/investigations and deciding on appropriate action.  Serving informal and statutory notices, liaising with contractors, particularly regarding drainage, collecting evidence for legal action and presenting to courts as necessary.  Maintaining and updating case files on computer system.

Applicants must have suitable transport to be able to travel between sites, should be able to enter confined spaces e.g. underground drainage systems, and able to climb ladders etc in or order to carry out surveys.

A relevant qualification in environmental health, building and/or drainage (eg BTech) or experience of working in a relevant field is required together with a thorough understanding and application of the wide range of legislation relating to Housing, Public Health, Drainage and Pests, including codes of practice, local and national guidance.  HHSRS and building construction experience is highly desirable with experience in building design, construction and technology, drainage (above & below ground) and pest control.
